Alpaca wool has exceptional properties. It is lightweight, soft, homogeneous and silky, retaining a unique silky sheen throughout the product’s lifespan. Very warm (7 times warmer than a sheep’s), with high thermoregulatory properties – it is warm in the cold and not hot in the heat. Strong (3 times stronger than a sheep’s), not prone to rolling, toppling and jamming. Resistant to pollution and does not cause allergic reactions. Unlike the scaly and therefore prickly fibers of sheep wool, alpaca fibers are smooth and comfortable to the touch.
Virgin wool is the wool taken from a lamb’s first shearing. This first lot of wool from a lamb is the finest and softest wool taken from a sheep during its life.
Or it is wool that has not been processed or woven. Basically any wool that has not been recycled. In this case, the virgin wool can come from an adult sheep.
It is soft and very light due to the absence of pre-processing, so the products from this yarn are quite warm.
The main characteristics of Virgin Wool are as follows:
the fineness of the pile, which does not exceed 20 microns, which is several times thinner than a human hair;
natural shine, preserved due to manual shearing of sheep and the absence of subsequent processing;
the beauty of the material due to the fact that the pile is sheared from a merino breed of sheep, which is considered one of the most elite breeds.
